Understanding the Study Planner
What is a Study Planner?
A study planner is a scheduling tool designed to help students and lifelong learners organise their study time effectively. Unlike a general calendar or to-do list, a study planner focuses specifically on academic planning - letting you define subjects with custom colours, build a visual weekly timetable, log study sessions with duration and notes, and track your progress over time. Our study planner runs entirely in your browser, saves to local storage, and requires no account or installation. It combines a weekly timetable builder with a session tracker so you can plan your study schedule and monitor your actual study hours in one place.
How Our Study Planner Works
- Add Your Subjects: Start by adding the subjects or courses you are studying. Give each subject a name and assign a unique colour. Colours help you quickly identify subjects in the weekly timetable and progress overview. You can edit or remove subjects at any time.
- Build Your Timetable: Switch to the Timetable tab to see a visual weekly grid showing Monday through Sunday with hourly time slots from 7 AM to 8 PM. Click any empty cell to assign a study block for a subject. Click an existing block to remove it. The timetable automatically saves to your browser, so your weekly schedule persists between visits.
- Log and Track Sessions: Switch to the Study Tracker tab to log individual study sessions. Select a subject, date, duration (15, 30, 45, 60, 90, or 120 minutes), and optional notes about what you covered. Mark sessions complete as you finish them. The progress overview shows your total study time per subject with visual progress bars, and the weekly session log gives you a detailed breakdown of everything you studied this week.
What the Study Planner Saves
- Subjects: Your subject names and assigned colours are saved so you only need to set them up once. Add, edit, or remove subjects at any time.
- Weekly Timetable: All time blocks in your weekly study timetable are saved to local storage. The timetable persists across browser sessions, so your planned schedule is always ready when you open the study planner.
- Study Sessions: Every logged study session with subject, date, duration, notes, and completion status is saved individually. The study planner tracks all sessions and calculates your total study time per subject automatically.
- Progress Data: Completion percentages and study time totals are computed from your session logs, giving you an accurate picture of your study habits and progress toward your learning goals.
Tips for Effective Study Planning
Start by blocking out your fixed commitments (classes, work, meals, sleep) before adding study blocks to your timetable. Use the morning hours for your most challenging subjects when your focus is sharpest. Break long study sessions into 45-90 minute blocks with short breaks in between - this matches the natural attention span and improves retention. Log each study session immediately after you complete it, including brief notes on what you covered - this gives you an accurate record for review. Review your study planner weekly to adjust your schedule based on what subjects need more attention. Aim for consistency rather than marathon sessions; studying for one hour every day is more effective than cramming for seven hours once a week. Use the colour-coded progress bars in the study planner to identify subjects where you are falling behind and reallocate your time accordingly.
