How the Comparison Engine Works
When you upload two Office Open XML files (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX), the tool reads the internal ZIP structure of each file using JSZip and parses the XML metadata files (docProps/core.xml and docProps/app.xml) with fast-xml-parser. It then normalizes all fields into a common set, aligns them by field name and group, and performs a field-by-field comparison. Each field is classified as identical, different, unique to File A, or unique to File B, with the results displayed in a clear side-by-side layout.
What Fields Can Be Compared
The tool compares all metadata found in both files across four namespaces. Core metadata includes title, subject, creator, keywords, description, last modified by, revision number, category, language, and creation/modification timestamps. Application metadata includes application name and version, total edit time, page/word/character counts (Word), slides/notes/hidden slides (PowerPoint), company, and manager. Custom properties are also compared when present in either file.
